Following our recent move to Gloucestershire we have started tackling the large garden.  One of the main reasons for buying our house was so that I would have room to create an “outside kitchen” more specifically including a cob bread oven.  A joy of living in a forest is that the availability of wood is plentiful and smoke restrictions are minimal!

For those of you who know about my Sour Dough Bread Addiction and the traditional “Friday Night Pizza Night”, I have been very excited at the prospect of a wood fired oven and much time has been spent over recent months, agonising over whether to buy or build.  After much deliberation we have decided to build and so I booked myself on a “How to build a Cob Oven course” with Matthew Lloyd at the “Fabulous Cob Oven Company” in Shropshire.

My expectations of the day were extremely high, and still the course exceeded them.  An idyllic location, great tutor and a lovely group of fellow trainees, it really was a great day out, and I came away feeling confident that our build is absolutely achievable (even with our limited DIY experience). I’m guessing only time will tell but watch this space for details of the build, I’m just waiting for some help to finish the area around the base first, and then it will be full steam (smoke) ahead.

In the meantime here are some highlights of the day!
